Ben Hughes was born in London then moved to Sussex after getting thrown out of school but ended up back in London to do a foundation at Central St. Martins. He wanted to make sculpture properly which he felt he couldn’t do at college because of the facilities and lack of teaching so he started making wood collages at home whilst learning how to weld through evening courses. Hoping to get a more professional understanding he applied for a position at The Foundry in Gloucestershire where he has been working since January 2007. Here, Hughes does metalwork, casting bronze sculptures for different artists as well as sheet metal fabrication. After a days work is done he is allowed to create his own sculptures using The Foundrys facilities.
